16 Gauge stainless steel is approximately 1.5mm thick. The majority of domestic kitchen sinks are 18 Gauge (~1.2mm) or 20 Gauge (~0.9mm). The difference in material mass is felt and heard every day:

When you set a full pot of water into the sink, a 16 Gauge sink's base doesn't flex noticeably under the load. When water hits the base, the thicker steel absorbs the impact rather than transmitting a hollow ringing sound through the cabinets. When a heavy pot slides in, the base doesn't flex or dent over years of use the way a lighter gauge eventually does.

This is not a marketing claim - it's a physical property. The steel is thicker throughout the bowl. The difference compounds over years of daily use.

Handmade Construction - the Difference You See in the Corners

The BK-7548 is a handmade sink - not a stamped press-out. The practical consequences of that manufacturing difference are visible at the corners:

Stamped sinks use large corner radii because the press can't form a sharp corner in thin steel. The result: the actual usable flat surface area at the base of the sink is significantly less than the external dimensions suggest. A stamped sink that measures 750mm wide actually has considerably less usable bottom surface than those dimensions imply.

Handmade construction uses cut sheets and welding, which allows a tighter corner radius - R10 or tighter. The practical result: the same external dimensions contain a measurably larger volume of usable bowl space. The pots and baking trays that don't fit in a standard-radius sink fit in this one.

Undermount - the Installation That Makes Sense for Solid Benches

The Transition That Keeps the Bench Clean.

The BK-7548 is designed for undermount installation: the rim sits below the bench surface, and the edge of the countertop is exposed above the sink. The result is a clean, rimless transition from bench to sink. Water and crumbs can be swept directly into the bowl without anything catching on a rim.

Undermount installation is standard in solid surface benchtops - stone, quartz, solid surface - where the visual effect and the cleaning efficiency both justify the additional installation precision required.
